Lotta Jost, Weltwarts - Bridge Builder Program Volunteer - Germany
I am Lotta Jost from Germany. I have come to NMCT as the part of Weltwarts, Bridge Builder Program Volunteer. During my time at NMCT, India, I had the chance to experience numerous activities of intercultural activities. We always exchanged ideas about cultural differences and told each other about our experiences. I especially liked how we celebrated Indian festivals as well as German festivals like Christmas together at NMCT and thus brought the two cultures closer together. We also cooked Indian food and German food together. There was always music from both cultures playing and we laughed a lot together. Another point is the language, at the end of my time it was possible for me to say single sentences in Tamil and I could also understand a little bit if one listened to conversations. It was really nice when I came to in the evening and could ask in Tamil “How school was” or “How they were doing”. At the same time I was totally impressed how motivated and interested some staff were to learn German and they always came to me and asked me things in German. Language connects and makes it possible to exchange even more. I am so grateful for all the people in and outside the organization NMCT that I was able to meet during my trip and with whom I got into cultural exchange.
